Plurk 100 Karma

Karma. It started as an obsession for many a Plurker, slowly fading away with only the occasional “Oooo, I’ve hit Plurk Nirvana!!! (dance)” popping up on the timeline. Now however, there is a milestone fast approaching in the land of Plurk (I like to call it Plurkland..) which is: The first Plurker to reach 100 Karma!

Plurk 100 Karma Plurker

Quick Q&A:-

  • Who? WendyKnits …and A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!
  • When? 1st of December, 2008 at 4:05am UTC. (With re-development complete: 2nd of December, 2008 @ 11EST!)
  • Why? WendyKnits has been a Plurker since the boom in June 2008 and has Plurked steadily since, sharing experiences, thoughts, as well as posts to her blog at (wendyknits.net).
  • WHAT HAPPENS AFTER 100 KARMA!? Well obviously those that reach 100 Karma first are doomed to implode. (This is not scientifically proven as yet however we advise you not too stand close to WendyKnits during the karma updates… just in the event we were right.)

Okay, so the main question here for everyone I think, is the ‘what next’. I have been a member of Plurk since June 2008 myself and I am certainly interested to know.

  • Will Plurk commemorate this occasion?
  • Will people begin to lose interest and subscriptions lower?
  • After reaching 100 Karma, is the only way for a Plurker down?
  • What colour will the 100.00 Karma be? (thinking)
  • Oh.. is there a special 100 Karma Plurk badge? (unsure) (It’s things like this that haunt me..)

Well – as the age-old saying goes – only time will tell BUT I’ll kick myself from any seat on the fence to say; I genuinly think Plurk has a fantastic, lively and energetic community that will continue into the future, evolving and growing as Plurk does. SO, regardless of all the shenanigans, I fully intend to continue onward with my Plurk journey!

NEVER MIND ABOUT ME THOUGH! What are you’re thoughts? What do you think will happen after the 100 Karma is first hit? What would you like to see happen?

Leave your thoughts, comments and questions for discussion!

Again, I wish WendyKnits a huge stupendous congratulations! Well done you!

    Hmmm… The question I’m asking myself is whether Karma finishes at 100? Somehow we all seem to have had the idea that Karma is more of a ‘percentage of awesome’ when I could literally just be a number that rises higher and higher. Hmm… there’s only one way to find out!

    I’m definitely interested in what this means… and it’s a grand idea to bring it up.

    I think this is a monumental occasion! Three cheers for WendyKnits!!

    @Craig | fusedreality -
    I – like many others – have always perceived Plurks Karma as a 0 – 100 scale, a percentage but there is little to say that it ends there. Part of me (probably the coffee deprived part) would like to think that it does not end at 100 but continues indefinitely, all-be-it perhaps on the more challenging degree.

    The other possibility too, if 100 is the current limit, is whether Plurk would look to perhaps redevelop? I’m interested to hear peoples thoughts on this though and if they think it will and/or should continue after 100.

    @Kat -
    Heck and yes:- HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH!!

    Maybe they’ll have extensions or something after a while to increase the amount of karma you can get…? Not a clue to be honest! :P

    Great post — and thanks for the congratulations. :-)

    It does seem a bit anticlimactic that karma stops at 100, but according to the Plurk developers, it does. I wonder, though, when you reach 100, can your Karma drop again?

    I guess I’ll be finding out.

    @WendyKnits -
    I think, I would like to believe there is or will be a continual rise in Karma and that it will be a continual Journey in Plurk to reach new levels, such as we do in life. I do fear though, that there might still be your dreaded drop(s) in Karma, even for those keeping the 100 Karma critters company.

    We will be finding out, soon too and we’ll all be watching quite eagerly as well no doubt!

    @Marylin/Softi -
    Interesting idea, Marylin and perhaps there could be something like little extensions over new arriving seasons or something. As the developers of Plurk have always taken keen interest in community feedback, anything suggested could be taken into consideration ;)

    I found that karma was kind of anti-climatic after I reached nirvana. I coded over the count, so I don’t notice it every day.

    @On a limb with Claudia -
    Right at the beginning of time (in the Plurk Big-Bang Theory…) there was definitely a buzz with karma but like you, I found it anti-climatic after a certain period. I’ve managed to hit Nirvana twice now while on my journey but as I can do all the things I want to do anyway (namely CSS playing…) I am not to stressed with it all.

    I might one day get round to hiding my karma as you have done though. It is a good idea, I think.

    I don’t know what any of it means, but it couldn’t happen to a nicer plurker.

    Congratulations Wendy!
